So You Know You're A Writer When......

It's been a busy week.  Heck, it's been a busy month or what the hey, I'll just 'fess up and say it's a busy life.  Most days there are not enough hours in the day to do what I need to accomplish.  Juggling my family against my writing career is a constant challenge but I wouldn't have it any other way.

That said, with the release of Witness Protection Program on Monday from Rebel Ink Press (my eighth full length novel in less than a year) and then the unexpected - I thought I had another month until - the release of A Time To Love from Champagne Books I'm feeling like I want to have a little fun.  So here's my tongue in check list of So You Know You're A Writer When....

You know you're a writer when you get a great idea or some lines for a beginning in the middle of the night so you get out of bed and scribble it down on the first thing you can put a hand upon with whatever you can find to write it down with.  I've scribbled with crayons, in book flyleaves, on scrap paper and more.

You know you're a writer when you have to carry a notebook everywhere because you always have things you need to write down or lose.

You know you're a writer when you catch yourself cooking the kind of meals that your heroine does or making your hero from the current WIP's favorite dessert because you're so in the zone.

You know you're a writer when you're reading something.....like a Scripture reading at church for example, one of my personal experiences, aloud to the Sunday morning crowd...and you find yourself wanting to edit it as you go to make it read and flow better.

You know you're a writer when you read a book with a writer's eye and find the things you think someone should have edited out of the darn thing in the first place.

You know you're a writer when you can't watch a movie or a televison program with the same enjoyment because you just noticed a major flaw in the plot or premise that just doesn't work and you know you do better than that.

You know you're a writer when you see your book on the library shelf and you just have to put it out where a reader will be sure to pick it up.

You know you're a writer when everyday happenings offer sudden inspiration (which is why you carry the notebook)

You know you're a writer when you dream about your characters.

You know you're a writer when you go into emotional withdrawal when you finish a WIP because you're so involved with your people.

You know you're a writer when you watch people wherever you go, stealing their best lines, deciding how  you might describe that hairstyle,  or eavesdropping because hey, that could just work in your WIP.

The list could go on forever but you probably get the idea.
