I think Edna St. Vincent Millay called it right when she wrote "My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night but ah, my friends and oh, my friends it makes a lovely light." I would guess she was younger than me when she penned those lines and when I was younger myself, staying up late, rising early was much easier.
Right now my candle feels like it melted into a puddle of wax.
The one thing most of us never think about when we aspire to become authors is that we'll be spending long hours at our craft. It isn't just the working with words but the endless editing, promotion, and more.
